Pierre Cardin (1922-2020)

 

Pierre Cardin is an Italian-born French fashion designer best known for his haute couture geometric avant-garde designs. Now owner of the fashion empire, Pierre Cardin, began his career in the Fashion Industry moving to Paris in 1945 and designed for, at that time, newly opened Fashion House “Dior”. Mr Cardin founded his own Fashion House in 1950. Due to his great success in the Fashion World, he has won three prestigious French High Fashion awards called “Golden Thimble” (De d’Or). Besides his successful career in the Industry of Design, in October 2009, he was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations in the field of Food and Agriculture, contributing to humanitarian work by fighting hunger around the World. He is also honoured to be Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit.

For all his innovations and professional success, for contribution to the development of World Design, but with special reference in expessing the highest human values and commitment to the welfare of the society, Megatrend University awarded Mr. Pierre Cardin an honorary Doctorate in 2012.
